These brass inserts create strong, permanent metal threads in 3D printed plastic parts by melting them in with a soldering iron. They're ideal for first-year engineering students assembling prototypes that need repeated bolting without stripping plastic.
Insert Specifications
- Material: Brass—excellent conductivity for heat insertion and durable threading.
- M3 inserts: Outer diameter 4.2 mm; internal M3 x 0.5 mm thread (fits M3 screws).
- M4 inserts: Outer diameter 5.5 mm; internal M4 x 0.7 mm thread (fits M4 screws).
- Design: Tapered "hot melt" shape grips plastic firmly after heating to ~250–350°C.
- Typical use: Reinforcing holes in PLA/ABS/PETG for enclosures, mounts, or robot frames.
Insertion tip: Use a 4–6 mm soldering tip at low wattage; pre-drill ~0.1 mm undersized hole for best results.
